"Help Your Teenager Develop Empathy." ReachOut Parents. Accessed May 20, 2019. https://parents.au.reachout.com/common-concerns/everyday-issues/things-to-try-bullying-behaviour/help-your-teenager-develop-empathy.
This article discusses, besides how to help develop empathy in a teenager, the importance of having it in the first place. Empathy is the ability to understand what someone/something experiences and place oneself in its shoes. This next quote summarises it quite well, especially when thinking of the way humans treat nature: “Often people bully or unintentionally hurt others because they lack an ability to think about and understand the impact of their actions and words on others. Without empathy and respect for others, it’s easy to act in ways that hurt other people. There are many ways your teenager can get what they need without having a negative impact on others, and it’s important to help them learn the skills to do this.”
